San Francisco Heritage cordially invites you to our special 2024 gala show “A Night Celebrating Japantown, the Fillmore, and the 50th Anniversary of Moving Victorians.”
On the evening of Thursday, September 5, 2024, we will commemorate the 50th anniversary of San Francisco Heritage’s successful project to save and relocate historic buildings for reuse by Western Addition residents.
In 1974, eleven Victorian-era flats and houses were spared from demolition and in early-morning hours were towed west to new locations in the neighborhood. Restored and added in the National Register of Historic Places, all of the buildings still stand and continue to provide housing for dozens of San Franciscans.
Archival films and historical photos of Western Addition “house migrations will be featured along with segments celebrating the cultural vitality, history, and resilience of the Japantown and Fillmore neighborhoods.
Ticket proceeds benefit San Francisco Heritage’s nonprofit mission.
