Noam Chomsky is one of the most influential public intellectuals in the world today: he is an outspoken U.S. political activist, social critic, philosopher, and historian – and a ground-breaking linguist. Formerly a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, he currently teaches at the University of Arizona, and has written over 100 books. His most recent book is "Requiem for the American Dream: The 10 Prinicples of Concentration of Wealth and Power." Chomsky is one of the most cited scholars in modern history and is a founding member of MECA's Adivsory Board.

Daniel Ellsberg is a world reknowned whistle-blower who leaked "The Pentagon Papers," which was instrumental in strengthening opposition to the Vietnam War.

"Naima Shalhoub and Excentrik"
are Oakland-based Arab American musicians who draw upon their Arab music traditions and American soul.

About the Middle East Children's Alliance

Since 1988, the Middle East Children's Alliance (MECA) has delivered over $25 million in medical aid and food to children in Palestine, Lebanon and Iraq. MECA also supports dozens of community projects for Palestinian children and refugees from Syria. Overall, MECA works to protect the rights and improve the lives of children in the Middle East through aid, empowerment and education. Our projects strive to meet children’s basic needs and give them opportunities to play, learn, and envision a better future.

Specifically, MECA's projects include providing safe drinking water to children in Gaza. Our "Gaza Lights" program gives households a rechargeable power system that generates electricity and includes: three lights, a fan, and a mobile phone charger. We also train teachers to offer psychosocial support to help children in Gaza cope with trauma from Israeli military violence. Additionally, we fund university scholarships, music programs, children’s books, and provide warm clothing. MECA's work raises awareness about the lives of children in the region and encourages meaningful action.
