Now in its 42nd year, internationally acclaimed contemporary ballet company—Alonzo King LINES Ballet—will present exquisite moments from repertoire spanning 24 years. The organization's home Fall Season in San Francisco, October 12–15, will highlight repertoire that showcases the range of King's works that embody all that LINES represents, from the contemplative and heart-wrenching to joyful and cathartic. Featured in the program are elegant passages from King's Suite Etta (1997), Following the Subtle Current Upstream (2000), Dust and Light (2009), Writing Ground (2010), Resin (2013), and Child of Sky and Earth (2021), a solo originally choreographed for NYC Ballet principal dancer Tiler Peck.
In addition to the exceptional artistry of its dancers, LINES Ballet is known for its long-standing work with some of the world's most sought-after musical collaborators. This fall, the company joins musical forces with the warm baritone voice of GRAMMY Award-winning artist Gregory Porter to South African singer-songwriter Miriam Makeba, with music that represents a range of traditions—blues, Italian baroque, pop, and jazz, along with Jewish, Christian, Muslim, and Tibetan Buddhist music. The season seeks to answer the very basic question of what it means to be human through movement, music, and the power of sharing the experience together.

“We've been fortunate to work with some of the greatest musicians on the planet during the past 41 years. And if you could choose masterful composers from around the world, why would you limit yourself to one genre? A lament is a lament, regardless of its place of origin. I simply want to work with tuning forks that vibrate truth, for movement and sound are both vibrations; they are inextricably linked.” — Alonzo King
