The San Francisco Choral Society, under the direction of Robert Geary, presents an evening of music that speaks to the enduring human longing for peace.
At the heart of the program is Ralph Vaughan Williams’s Dona Nobis Pacem, a stirring 20th-century plea for harmony and reconciliation. Drawing on texts from the Latin Mass and the poetry of Walt Whitman, the work moves from anguish to hope, reflecting both the devastation of war and the resilience of the human spirit.
Complementing this masterwork are two luminous works by contemporary composer Ola Gjeilo: The Lake Isle of Innisfree, inspired by W. B. Yeats’s vision of serenity and solitude, and Bronte, a choral piece commissioned and premiered by SF Choral Society in 2023, exploring memory, place, and renewal.
The performance features soprano Michele Kennedy, baritone Kenneth Goodson, guitarist Maxwell Gibbs, and pianist Keisuke Nakagoshi, with orchestral accompaniment by the California Chamber Symphony.
Join us for this moving reflection on peace, poetry, and the power of music.
Saturday, November 15 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, November 16 at 4 p.m.
at Trinity + St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, San Francisco.
