About Star Dance Studio:
Star Dance Studio has provided quality dance education in San Francisco since 1950. Founded by professional ballerina and Armenian folk dancer Ruth Jevarian, the studio built its reputation on strong training, artistic excellence, and a genuine love of sharing dance with the community through performances at special events, hospitals, and senior centers. In 1974, her daughter, Micky Powell, assumed leadership of the school and continued to grow the family legacy. As enrollment expanded, the studio moved in 1996 into its permanent home, the beautifully transformed former Sutro Supermarket building, originally constructed in 1933. Today, Micky remains actively involved in guiding the school alongside an experienced and dedicated leadership team. Artistic Director Ms. Tami helps shape the studio’s creative vision, productions, and choreography, while Studio Manager Ms. Monique oversees daily operations and supports the school’s welcoming family atmosphere. Micky’s daughter, Julie, contributes her creative talents through the studio’s marketing, program design, and recital merchandise, helping carry the spirit and tradition of Star Dance Studio into the future.
