Experience the extraordinary range of vocal and choral music with the San Francisco Choral Society this November. Dimensions of Sound brings together powerful sacred masterworks, contemplative contemporary music, and the exquisite musical colors of French composers Nadia and Lili Boulanger.
At the heart of the program are two remarkable works for chorus: Louis Vierne’s Messe solennelle, a magnificent setting rich in sonic splendor, and Arvo Pärt’s Berliner Messe, a luminous and deeply moving work that finds profound beauty in simplicity.
The program also turns to the intimate world of French music with works by the celebrated Boulanger sisters. Nadia Boulanger’s Cantique and Lili Boulanger’s Prélude in Ré♭ and Les Sirènes offer a contrasting perspective, revealing the expressive beauty of the soprano voice and piano.
From the expansive sound of the chorus to the delicate interplay of voice and piano, this program explores the many ways music can move, inspire, and transport us.
